October 29, 2004 The Self-Employed Critic Well, it didn't take long for me to get some steady freelance work, which is awesome. Of course, it's still a healthy chunk less that what I was making at Day Job. But on the plus side, it's countless hours less work, so I have a lot of time on my hands to take anything else that appears. I've turned down a lot of freelance work over the past year or so just based on time. I've got some nibbles about other stuff as well, so overall I'm feeling pretty good. Actually, I feel awesome. The stress that has been lifted from my shoulders is incredible. Tammy (the nutty neighbour) saw me this morning as I was on my way to buy cigarettes (don't smoke, kids…it's bad for you). And she said "Hey…you look…taller." I chalked this up to her normal ramblings, but then I realized that I actually FELT taller. Then I caught a reflection of myself in the mirror. I was standing up straight. I guess I've always been a sloucher. What with the weight of the world on ol' Atlas's shoulders here, I was always kind of hunched. But with the future wide open in front of me, and most of the stress behind me, I'm just feeling incredible. So, here's what's going to be happening: The Book: For those of you keeping score, it's called "The Cream Of The Crap: The Naked Critic Reviews The 50 Worst Films Ever Made". I was originally aiming for next spring or summer, but I think I have a shot at having it ready for Christmas. Hell, last night alone, I suffered through "Master Of Disguise" and "feardotcom" (the things I do for you guys). I'll keep you posted.
New Reviews: I'm hoping to have a few more reviews up, and more frequently. But I'm also thinking about adding Video Game reviews to the site. Let me know your thoughts on this. I'm planning to have my first game review, of "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" up sometime next week. Do you like the idea? Hate it? Don't care either way? Let me know! In the meantime, I think I'm just going to enjoy the rest of the day (and weekend) while the good mood lasts. Historically, it probably won't last long, so I'm going to make the best of it while I can. Oh, and one last thing…if you know of any publications looking for some freelance talent, send them my way. That would be awesome. Booyakasha! |
